The underground collection The history of Blue, which was realised by The Five Elements for the Vienna subway lines unites tradition and lifestyle. The socks, tights, scarf and hat were made out of the used fabric from the seats of the subway wagons. As an essential design element of the Vienna lines the colours and patterns of the seats contribute significantly towards whether a passenger feels comfortable or not. The motif chosen for The history of Blue collection has accompanied the passengers daily for almost a decade and was an essential component in the brand recognition. Since the fabric seats of more and more wagons are currently being replaced by smooth, wipeable seats, the idea was to dedicate an own collection in homage of the cult design. A plan that certainly paid off – the hat, scarf, socks and tights especially proved to be absolute musthaves among the younger passengers. The items comply with the Standard 100 by Oeko-Tex® and are produced in the EU in an ISO-approved factory. The items were sold via the fan and museum shops of the Vienna lines. The tribute to the seat fabric was rewarded with a Promotional Gift Award in the category Merchandising.
