Holland‘s beaches are becoming cleaner: The jute bags Circularly Beach were developed for collecting rubbish in the Dutch coastal regions. “Jutten” means “find stranded goods” in Dutch – thus the eco-friendly jute bags have a double meaning, which is underlined by the imprint. The bags were implemented for Green Earth Products “Grondstofjutten” project, which more or less means “combing the beach, to find raw materials”. Beach visitors were able to take the bags with them from the beach pavilions and restaurants so they could collect rubbish during their stroll. The reward for returning a filled bag – a cup of coffee or soup. The entire waste products were subsequently used by “Applied Arts” students of the Amsterdam University as raw materials for new products such as sunshades and beach chairs. In total, 280 kg of rubbish was collected in September 2015.
The jute implemented is spun in a certified factory and sewn together by an establishment in India that is also multi-certified. The material used is compostable and biodegradable. In addition to the imprint, additional individualisation options include the colour contrasting of the handle, as well as a choice of sizes and colours. As such, the jute bag unites all of the criteria required for a sustainable advertising measure, which was reason enough for it to win a Promotional Gift Award 2016 in the category Best Practice.
